The Real Maldives is a cooperation of Duiksafaris.nl, a Dutch company specialised in live aboards (dive safaris) in the Maldives and Fasfinn Maldives PVT LTD, a Maldivian company who takes care of the guesthouses. We were contacted in 2009 by Mr Ahmed Habeeb (our Maldivian partner) who had a visionairy view of the possibilities when the law changed in 2009.

Before 2009 toerists were not allowed to stay after sunset on local islands. In 2009 (after the financial crisis) the government looked for new funding for the maldives as the resorts are ran by foreign investment companies and most of the generated income flows to these companies and not to the Maldivian people.

The Maldives now effectively exist out of 2 countries in one. One consists out of the very luxureous and very expensive resorts, the other country consists out of the local islands where the Maldivians themselves live.

We think of this as a golden oportunity to bring you the Maldives as the Maldivians experience it with a Maldivian pricetag.
